Colleen Tomasko Obituary

Colleen L. Tomasko, 80, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 24, 2024, in Torrington, CT.  She was the proud wife of John Matthew “Matt” Tomasko.

Colleen was born April 29, 1944 in Torrington, CT, the daughter of Thomas and Evelyn (Elliott) Martin.

Colleen spent her early years in Torrington, and graduated from Torrington High School.  After several jobs as a bookkeeper, she and Matt owned Squire’s Paint Stores in Torrington and Burlington.  She was an active member of the Harwinton Lions Club where her volunteer work helped to sponsor service dogs. She was a long-time Treasurer of the Lake Harwinton Association where she was instrumental in the project to rebuild the dam and spillway. She married the love of her life on “the rock” on Lake Harwinton and they would go on to enjoy 43 years together.  After retiring, they moved to Niantic, CT and Venice, FL before returning to Torrington to be closer to family and friends, where they lived at Keystone Place at Newbury Brook.

She is predeceased by her parents, daughter Kelley Sonnati; sisters Judith Hitt and Shayne Murry; and nephew Steven Tomasko.  She is survived by her sons Richard Sonnati (Susan) of Harwinton, CT, Matthew A Tomasko (Cristina) of Park Ridge, IL and Dr. Jonathan Tomasko (Estelle) of Hershey, PA, her sister Patricia Noreika of Torrington, CT, her grandchildren Crystal Clifford (Jake) of Harwinton, CT; Ava and Alissa (Park Ridge, IL); Wesley and Roselyn (Hershey, PA), her great grandchildren, Luca and Leo (Harwinton, CT), her mother-in-law Helen Tomasko and brother-in-law Raymond Tomasko (Denise), her nephews; Howard Noreika (Suzanne), Daniel Cimmino (Christine), Thomas Noreika (Shelli), Todd Noreika (Michelle), nieces Shannon Hayes (Peter) and Erin Kane (Duke) and many extended great-nieces and great-nephews.

Many thanks to all who took care of her at Keystone Place and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, where the amazing doctors, nurses and staff brought her comfort and peace.

There will be a celebration of Colleen Tomasko’s life in Spring 2025.  In lieu of flowers the family invites our friends and loved ones to consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association or Harwinton Lions Club.
