Carol Ann (Gray) Mazaik, 84 of New Hartford passed away Thursday, November 27, 2025 at Havencare at Litchfield Woods. She was the wife of the late Michael Mazaik. Carol was born in Torrington on March 19, 1941 to the late Dr James Gray and Anna (Slachtosky) Gray.
Carol started her working career as a teenager in the tobacco fields in Windsor Locks. She also worked at F.W. Woolworth’s and The Torrington Company as well as waitressing at several area restaurants.
Along with her husband whom she married in 1962 she graduated from Torrington High School in 1959 where they were voted “Most Promising Couple”. She loved gardening and arranging flowers, always remembering her nieces’ 16 th birthdays with a special sweet 16 corsages made of sugar cubes and ribbon. Also known for her love of all animals she would feed all the creatures of the woods at one point even having a pet “Randy” the raccoon.
Before her illness, you could always find Carol walking the roads in New Hartford enjoying all the seasons of the year. Her love of cooking always had everyone looking forward to her cookies, especially the “turkey” cookies at Thanksgiving and penuche fudge.
Carol leaves behind three sons, Michael, wife Celeste of Torrington, Glen of New Hartford, Jason, wife Debra of Holliston MA to cherish her memory. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Michael, wife Aliisa of Westfield MA, Andrew of Torrington, Lauren of NY, Caden and Cora of Holliston MA. Carol leaves her beloved sisters Joan Church, husband Donald and Patricia Faita both of Torrington along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brother Robert Gray and brother-in-law Frank Faita.
Funeral Services will be held Friday December 5, at 1:00 PM at Saint John Paul the Great Parish, Saint Francis Church in Torrington with burial following at Hillside Cemetery. Online memorials www.phalenfuneral.com
