Beverlee Moon Obituary

Beverlee J. Moon, of Torrington,  beloved wife, mother, and grandmother,  passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her husband and children on May 15, 2021,  and now lives in the loving care, compassion, and company of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  Bev was born in Kewanee,  Illinois,  and was the daughter of the late Allen J.and Agnes Johnson Bowman.  Also she reunited in Heaven with a brother Robert Bowman and two sisters Betty Bowman Johnson and Janice Bowman Swanson.

She was a graduate of Kewanee High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois. She also completed post graduate studies at Southern Connecticut State University.

Bev was  recognized and honored by several school administrators for her gifted and successful teaching skills and abilities as both a dedicated elementary school teacher and a revered English-as-a Second-Language (ESL) instructor.  As an ESL teacher, teaching students,  originating from over thirty different foreign countries, Bev utilized a curriculum that she personally created to meet specific student needs.  Her teaching materials and  techniques were valued and used by other ESL teachers.  As a teacher, she also willingly taught home-bound children who were challenged by sickness or disability. She loved and deeply cared about the success of her students.

Bev enjoyed music, and as a musician, she played the piano, flute, and piccolo, performing in the High School band. and at church.  She was an avid reader especially enjoying English mysteries. Bev also enjoyed sports, participating in high school and college intramural athletics, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox,  New England Patriots, and the University of Connecticut Men's and Women's basketball teams.

Beverlee was a beautiful woman,  blessed with intelligence,  a wonderful memory, and many life skills.  She was the family historian,  recalling in detail past events and actions,  amusing everyone with her stories,  and making the past ever present and never forgotten for the family. She possessed and expressed compassion and concern for others, offering loving care and assistance to those who welcomed her helping hand,  wisdom, and listening ear. She actively practiced her Christian faith, in word and deed.

Bev was a constant support to her husband during his career-long ministry as a Lutheran Pastor, teaching Sunday School and Confirmation classes,  accompanying singing, directing youth choirs, and organizing fellowship gatherings. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family.  She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, relative, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. Family was everything to Bev.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory besides her husband, Rev. Dwaine Moon, are her daughters, Sara Moon, and Amy Lee and her husband Michael, her son David Moon,  grandsons Garrett Moon, Bryce Moon, Tyler Lee and his wife Rebekah, and her granddaughter Kirsten Cochran and her husband Nick.  Also, she leaves behind cousins Barbara Sheperdigian and Priscilla Robinson and her husband Rob, brother- in -law Darrel Moon and wife Beverly,  and several nieces and nephews from the Moon and Bowman families, as well as many friends.
