Andrew Michael Grech (Andy), born October 14, 1934, passed peacefully in the loving embrace of his family on July 13, aged 88. He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 63 years, Carol, his 3 brothers and one sister. Andy leaves behind a legacy of 6 children, 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren as well as countless devoted and loving friends and extended family, all who he cherished greatly.
Andy’s generosity throughout the decades knew no bounds. Everyone was treated as family and welcome at his table. He was the type of man who was there with open arms when you needed help, fed all before himself, and who showed up for every band performance, soccer game or recital. He was extremely devoted to his family and became “Papa” to all who were fortunate enough to know him. Without fail, he brought a smile to everyone’s face with his quick wit and hilarious facial expressions. An incredible man that was without comparison, a fighter until the very end, who, even on his worst days, when asked how he was doing, always replied, “Great! How ‘bout you?”
In his honor we ask you and your families to blare some polka music, chow down on potato pancakes, eat ice cream (especially if it’s one scoop of strawberry in a waffle cone) and snuggle all your precious little ones as he so delighted in doing. He was blessed to live a full life and was loved far and wide and the impact of his loss will be felt endlessly.
A joint Memorial Mass for Andy and Carol will be held on Friday July 21 at 11 AM at Our lady of Hope Parish Immaculate Heart Church in Harwinton. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations please be made to the Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, CT.
