Sally (McCarty) Smith

Sally Smith, 86, formerly of Torrington and Burlington CTpassed away Monday, June 19th, at Cherrybrook Health Center, Canton. She was the wife of the late Harvey E. Smith Sr.

Sally was born in Springfield, MA on June 20, 1930, a daughter of the late Marion (Allen) and Frank McCarty, Sr. she graduated from Saint Francis School, Torrington High School and Grand Rapids Community College for Nursing in Michigan, and New England Music Conservatory in Boston. She was a flute teacher in the area for many years and played with The Torrington Symphony. She had been Director of Nurtsing at Brightview in Avon and worked for Litchfield Woods in Torrington, as well as Northwest VNA. She was choir director and organist at Immaculate heart of Mary Church in Harwinton for several years.

Sally is survived by three daughters, Andrea VanNoordennen, and husband Gerry of Niantic; Brenda Engdahl and husband John of Peoria IL; and Paula Jagiello of Suffield; a son Christopher Smith of Winsted and daughter in law Lisa Smith of Burlington,  several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by sons Harvey Jr. William, and Frank Smith.

The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday 5:00-7:00 PM. at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington with a prayer service at 7 PM.
