Ruth Crockett Obituary

Ruth Pauline Niemis Crockett of New Hartford, CT, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Wednesday afternoon December 18, 2019 after a short illness. She was the devoted wife of Roger Crockett for 65 years and mother of three sons, Lee (Diane) Crockett, Brian (Juanita) Crockett and Bruce (Bettina) Crockett who will miss her dearly. Ruth is also survived by her caring grandchildren; Jordan (Eric), Elizabeth, Leslie, Nicole, and Matthew, of whom she was very proud. Besides her children and grandchildren, she leaves behind her best friend and sister Brenda and her nephews and their families.
Ruth was born on March 22, 1934 in Torrington, CT, the daughter of Stella W. and Paul C. Niemis.  During WWII she volunteered with her mother to watch for enemy aircraft from a tower on Wildcat Hill. After graduating from Torrington High School in 1952, she worked at the Torrington National Bank. She met her husband Roger when he was building a house down the road from her grandmother, Ruth W. Whitbeck. After she raised her three sons, she became a real estate broker working for over 20 years at Merrill Lynch Realty and Prudential Connecticut Realty.
Ruth and Roger were active members and former presidents of the Charter Oak Connecticut unit of the WBCC, an Airstream trailer club. One of their fondest trailer trips was to Hershey Park, Pennsylvania with their three children. Ruth was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church serving in
leadership positions and active in the United Methodist Women group. She was an avid Nantucket basket maker who demonstrated her craft each year at the Goshen Fair. She was also a talented seamstress, particularly known for her quilts which she donated annually to Acts of Valor. Ruth frequently took home awards for her meticulous works of art.
Ruth lived a beautiful and vibrant life surrounded by people she loved. She was caring, creative, and successful on many counts. She will forever be in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ruth’s name to the First United Methodist Church of Torrington, CT.

Funeral Services will be held Monday Dec. 23 at 11:30 at First United Methodist Church.  Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 PM at Phalen Funeral Home.
