Rudolph V Formaggioni
November 25, 1926 ~ October 30, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years OldRudolph "Rudy" Formaggioni, 90, of Torrington, CT, passed away Monday, October 30th, at home.
Rudy was born in Torrington, CT on November 25, 1926, a of the late Ida (Celadon) and Giacomo Formaggioni, third of seven children. He was drafted into the US Navy at age 18. Upon his 13 weeks of basic training in in Sampson NY he was transferred to Pensacola FL serving as a Plane Captain ensuring every part of a plane was in top shape for flight operations. After his discharge, he decided to strike out on his own as a Carpenter. Even in his retirement, he continued to serve his community by producing at personal cost the formed concrete "Torrington" Flower Boxes that adorn most notably in front of City Hall, The Armory, North End Firehouse, and the Unico Columbus Square.
He is survived by his brother Ronald Formaggioni, and sisters Blanche Zubrowski and Alma Vaill, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Zita Zajac and brothers Siro and Albino.
Funeral Services will be held Friday Nov 3 at 11:30 at Saint Peter Church with burial following at Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call prior to the service at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington from 10-11 AM.
