Mitzi (Bright) Kowalski

Mitzi Kowalski,86, of Torrington passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones. She grew up in Harwinton, daughter of Carrie Bright and James McManus where she completed her schooling and met the love of her life, Donald Kowalski on a blind date, which led to 63 years of marriage--a true love story. She worked at the office of Drs. Atwood and Farrell as well as Fitzgerald's Finance. Following her passion for cooking which was instilled in her at a young age, she operated a diner, Birge Park Luncheonette for a year and went on to own it for the following 40 years. She will be remembered for her love of Elvis, her willingness to always help those around her, jovial spirit, strong will, incredible strength and determination and the love she shared with those close to her, especially her family. Mitzi leaves behind her husband Donald; two children Gary Kowalski and Donna Allen; her twin granddaughters Rachel Allen and her partner Lynsey Michaud; and Courtney Vanadestine and husband Garrett and soon to be coming  great grandson Kaleb Vanadestine. She also leaves a sister Evelynn Moore, several nieces and nephews and was predeceased by sister Carrol Bright.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday June 1 10:30 at Saint Francis Church in Torrington. www.phalenfuneral.com
