Mildred Wallek Boratko, 93, of Torrington, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2019.
Mildred was the youngest of six children born to John Wallek and Anna Povec Wallek. All of her siblings have passed on before her. She was married to John Boratko, Jr., for 65 years until his death in 2015. She was the mother to Jane Ann Sabatelli who died in 2015, and is survived by her son, James Edward Boratko, of Canton. She was grandmother to Nancy Sabatelli of Torrington, Michael Boratko of West Hartford, Jeffrey Boratko of Torrington, and Keith Boratko of Brooklyn, NY. She was also the aunt to several nieces and nephews.
Mildred graduated Torrington High School in 1944. She worked in the Trust Department of Brooks Bank after high school, and became a bank teller and branch manager of the East Branch on the top of East Main Street in Torrington when Brooks Bank merged with Colonial Bank. She retired in 1972.
She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Berry Street, where she was a member of the Ladies Altar Guild, the choir, and the bowling league. She later transferred her affiliation to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Torrington. For many years, she knitted hundreds of hats and mittens and donated them to various church fairs in the community.
