My husband Jim knew and loved her from the Farm Shop. Then later in years we reconnected with her while bringing our daughter to the Y for swim lessons, and your Mom was there with her grandchildren.

Mary was my second mother for my early years. We lived next door and I remember it always felt like “going to grandma’s” when I climbed the stairs to visit Mary. I remember her sweet, gentle nature fondly. When we moved to the east end of Torrington, I wanted to be back on Pythian Avenue so I packed up, got on my bike, and rode it to Mary’s, where I asked if I could live there (I was 5). I am so sorry to read of Mary's passing . In the 1960's teenagers who "hung" at Scarpelli's were known as "Greasers" and those who "hung" at the Farm Shop were known as "Rah Rah's" . I was a Rah Rah and made sure that I and my buddies sat at whatever both Mary was serving that evening . What a charming, delightful , and sympathetic lady she was .
