Louis Miller Sr. Obituary
Louis P. Miller, Sr., 87, passed away at home on July 24, 2018. He was the husband of Janis (Foster) Miller for 62 years. He was the son of the late Louis J. and Florence T. Miller. In addition to wife Janis, he is survived by five children; daughters Brenda Wheeler (friend Larry) and Amy Sartirana (husband David) and sons Bruce, Douglas (wife Mary) and Louis Jr. (wife Wendy); nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Virginia Miller, Celina Foster, Kay Foster (husband Fred,) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sister Barbara Kelley and brother Roland Miller.
Louis attended schools in Torrington and Norfolk and served in the U.S. Marines for two years. He was later employed as a carpenter in Norfolk before working at the former Standard Plant of the Torrington Company for 29 years, retiring as Foreman of the Millwright Department. He joined the Drakeville Volunteer Fire Department shortly after its founding and was active there for over 60 years. He was also an active member of the First Congregational Church for over 60 years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and vacationing in Maine.
A graveside service will be held at Hillside Cemetery,76 Walnut Street, Torrington, CT on Saturday, August 4 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Steven Darr officiating.
