Kalman Nemeth, 89, of Harwinton, CT passed away Friday, April 14th, at Hartford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Theresa (Marosszeki) Nemeth.

Born in Vaspor Hungary, on November 2, 1927, son of the late Ferenc and Maria (Kulcsar) Nemeth, he taught school in Hungary before coming to this country in 1956. He received Masters Degrees from Central Connecticut State College in Education and The University of Connecticut in Social Work. He was a school social worker for the Danbury School System before his retirement. He was an avid reader and loved a spirited political debate.  He enjoyed gardening and watching soccer and tennis. But his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son Frank Nemeth of Barkhamsted, and three daughters: Maryann Larose and husband Robert of Barkhamsted, and their children Michael (Nicole), Lauren (Justin), and Matthew; Anita Pelli and husband Frank of New Canaan and their children Brooke, Nicholas, Michael, and Matthew; and Judy Hemenway and husband Mark of Barkhamsted and their children Madison, Noah, Grace, and Samuel. He also leaves great grandchildren Emma and Ava Crane. He was predeceased by brothers Ferenc and Arpad Nemeth and sister Andor Janosne.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and entire hospice team at Hartford Hospital who gave such compassionate care and support to Kalman and his family, especially Sara Chaffee, Stephanie Mulka, Dr.Yan Hou, and Dr. Ross Albert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary Church, Torrington, CT at 10:30 on Wednesday, April 19th. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Tuesday 5:00-7:00 PM at Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Ave in Torrington. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Autism Speaks 1 East 33rd St 4th Floor New York, NY 10016.
