Julian A. Chinatti, 86, passed away peacefully at home on Jan 19, 2017, surrounded by his loving wife of 62 years, Ann (Murphy) Chinatti, his children, and his family.  Julian was born on March 7, 1930 at home on River St. in Torrington, CT to Barbara and Cesare Chinatti.
After graduation from Oliver Wolcott Technical School, Julian was employed by the Torrington Company where he worked for 42 years in Torrington and in Clinton, SC.  He enlisted in the US Navy during the Korean War and served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Bataan where he travelled the world.
Julian was a lifelong sports enthusiast who followed the Dodgers, Yankees, Giants, and UConn Basketball.  He was an avid golfer and loved card playing, singing, home improvements, and lake and ocean vacations. But most of all, Julian enjoyed spending time with his family. He was always ready with his neatly organized toolbox to help family and friends in need of assistance.
Julian was a patient and spiritual man who was a community volunteer and an active member of Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Torrington where he served as an extraordinary minister and lector.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Torrington Elks Lodge.
Upon retirement in 1994, Julian and Ann enjoyed travelling and spent winters in Florida.  For the past 17 years, Julian and Ann have had an open door at their cottage at West Hill Lake where there is always a steady stream of family and friends who are welcomed with open arms.
Julian will be greatly missed by his wife Ann, his five children and spouses: Susan and Duston Lowell, Peggy and Richard Morgan, Sally Chinatti, Nancy and Greg Zanderigo, and Stephen and Lisa Chinatti; his thirteen grandchildren: Aaron, Sarah, Allison, Julianne, Samantha, Samuel, Hadley, Andrew, Jacob, Eric, Elena, Carolyn, and Maia; and his five great-grandchildren: Anthony, Dylan, Javier, Isiah, and Zoe.
Julian leaves his sister, Pauline Sartori, Italian cousins, in-laws: Thomas and Doris Murphy, Terrell and Eileen Hebert, Edward Leichner, beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.  Julian was predeceased by his sister Olive Koscso, his brother-in-law, Mario Sartori, and sister-in-law Maureen Leichner.
The funeral mass will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Church in Torrington at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 24.  Family and friends may call at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington on Monday, January 23 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm.  The family would like to especially thank Hospice for their extraordinary care and support. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Saint Francis Church or Hospice at Foothills Visiting Nursing and Home Care, 32 Union St, Winsted, CT 06098. www.phalenfuneral.com
