Joanne Marie Seger

Joanne Marie (JoJo) Seger of Harwinton passed away June 1, 2018 after a short battle with cancer.  Joanne was born May 12, 1945 in Torrington to the late Alfred and Irene (Costello) Seger.

Joanne graduated from Torrington High School in 1963 and attended Western Connecticut State College in Danbury graduating in 1967.  She was a 5th grade teacher at the North & East Schools in Torrington retiring in 2003. After retirement she worked at McCall’s Foundation for many years.

She was an avid golfer and had been a member of Greenwoods CC for many years. She was a lifelong member of the YMCA and also enjoyed bowling.

She is survived by her brother Edward and wife Shirley (Hull) and their Daughters Cheryl Barney and her husband Steven and their children Christopher and Nicholas, Kelly Mazzarelli and her husband James and their children Jacob, Brooke, Katherine and Alexandra. Lifelong friend Antonia Savage.

Joanne was a giving person who truly loved children.  She was deeply involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews who benefited from her generous and positive influence. Her smile, laughter and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her.

The family would like to thank Hartford Health Care Hospice for the wonderful care that they gave her during her short illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday June 8 at 10:00 am at Lourdes Shrine in Litchfield. Burial will follow at New Saint Francis Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 at Phalen Funeral Home in Torrington. Memorial contributions can be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place, West Brookline, MA 02445-7226
