Henry E Fries

Henry E. Fries, 90, of Milan NH,  formerly of Torrington died Saturday June 17, 2017.  He was the husband of the late Jacqueline Fogarty Fries.  Born in New Haven Nov. 21, 1926, one of 8 children, he was a graduate Hillhouse High and worked his way through Arnold College where he received  a Degree in Education.  He was also a Veteran of The US Army,  serving during WWII. He was a Science Teacher at Southwest School in Torrington,   later becoming Principal for 25 years.  He was greatly admired by former students and faculty and was a true inspiration to the profession of Teaching.  A true gentleman and family man,  he enjoyed sports,  especially the Red Sox baseball, and was a Civil War authority,  a member of the Civil War Roundtable Assoc., and a member of the Teacher’s Assoc.

He is survived by a daughter Catherine Rarick and husband Edward of Milan NH,  a son Michael A. Fries and wife Karen of Torrington,  and grandchildren Sarah McIntire,  Jennifer Fries,  and Michael B. Fries.  He also leaves great grandchildren Justin Failla and Angela McIntire,  a sister Mabel Fries,  and several nieces and nephews.  Private Services are at the convenience of the family.  Memorial Contributions can be made to Trinity Episcopal Church 220 Prospect St Torrington CT 06790 or to the Henry Fries Scholarship Fund C/O Torrington High School 50 Major Besse Dr Torrington CT 06790.  Online memorials www.phalenfuneral.com
