Franklyn R. Orie, 91, of Torrington, CT, passed away Tuesday, December 26th, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of 62 years of Jean Burke Orie.

Franklyn was born in Torrington on November 28, 1926, the son of the late Eva (Sherpenski) and Andrew Orie and served in the Army in the Philippines during WW II. Upon his discharge, he attended the University of Miami.  He owned his own building company for many years and also was a concrete foundation contractor.  He and his wife Jeanne lived in Bakerville for 40 years.

An avid pilot for 38 years, he owned several airplanes including antiques, and was one of the originators of the annual Simsbury Airport Airplane Fly-In.  He spent many happy hours at Johnnycake Airport with his flying partner, Bill Benbow. 

In addition to his wife, he leaves brother-in-law, Thomas Burke and his daughters Lori and Sue Burke, Kathleen Centrella, and Joanne Berlinski, and a special nephew Roger Simko, his wife Rosemary, and their children Orrie and Cal.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.   He was predeceased by his infant son Jude, and sisters Shirley Simko and Dolores Marcoux. Special thanks to the staff of Valerie Manor for their loving care. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
