Dorothy Desrosiers Obituary

NORTHFIELD - Dorothy {Hutchins) Desrosiers, 89, ( also lovingly known as Mom, Nana and Dot), passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Valerie Manor, Torrington where she spent her last year of her life. She was the wife of the late Donald R. Desrosiers.

Mrs. Desrosiers was born in Waterville, ME on September 22, 1929, one of 13 children of the late Harry and Thelma (Arris) Hutchins.  She began working at a young age, and leaves a legacy of hard work and dedication. She was retired from Johnson & Johnson Medical Inc. in Southington.

She is survived by her daughters, Charlene Dade and her partner Walter Decker of Northfield, Betty Knowles and her husband Sherman Knowles of Florida, Joy of ME, her son Chester of ME, her grandchildren, Denise Arsenault (Brad) of Terryville, Darlene (Desell) Ballou ( fiance’ Jeff) of Watertown, Felechia Merrick (Dan) of Florida, Heather Gavin of Florida, Carrie, Billy, Jimmy, and Jason. She also leaves behind many great grandchildren, Thomas, Lia, Cameron, Brandon, Dakota, Anthony, and Brianna, and her great great grandson James. She was predeceased by her son Owen and daughter Tina, grandsons Dwight Desell Jr., Kyle Dade, and Derek, 12 siblings, her nephew John Bates Jr. and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Dorothy will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt. Those who knew her will remember her beautiful smile, tender voice and abundance of love she gave her family and friends, how much she helped others and unselfishly gave a helping hand to everyone. Her hands were rarely still. She loved carpentry, renovating homes, and was no surprise to see her up on a ladder putting a roof on, installing windows, and building something with a tool in her hand. She loved sewing, knitting, crocheting and crafts. Dolls were a favorite, she loved collecting knick knacks and had more then most. She also loved reading spiritual books, gardening and long walks with her husband Don. Dorothy’s family is deeply grateful to Charlene Dade and her partner Walter Decker for their unending love and care during her last years of her life. Acknowledgement of thanks to Charline (Bates) Doty for her acts of kindness shown during the bereavement of our beloved one.  May Dorothy’s memory be a blessing to all those who knew her.Graveside Services will be held Wednesday Oct 10 at 11 AM at Hillside Cemetery in Torrington.
