Chester (Chet) John Suhovski 1927-2018

Chester J.Suhovski, 91, of Torrington peacefully entered life eternal on Friday, August 31, with his family by his side. Chet was predeceased by his loving wife Elsie. Born in Bristol to the late Peter and Mary Suhovski on Jan. 3,1927. He was predeceased by his brothers and sister.  He attended school in Bristol where his love and talent for baseball emerged.  He enlisted in the Navy in December of 1944.  He served as a Seaman Second Class stationed in Pensacola, FL where he played baseball.  He was discharged July 1946.  He became an accomplished southpaw pitcher and was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers where he played with Ted Williams and Pee Wee Reese.  He threw out his young arm and moved back to Bristol where he met the love of his life Elsie Boratko of Torrington. They were married in June 1954 and Chet moved to Torrington.

Chet worked at “The Brass” in Bristol as an annealer for 32 years until they closed in 1980.  He then worked at UTC Aerospace in Bantam, CT with his wife Elsie until they retired together in 1989.  In his younger years Chester loved playing baseball and bowling. He liked to walk and spend time with his friends at the Armory and also enjoyed playing cards at the senior center as well as cribbage with his family.

He was a member of the Torrington Elks Lodge 372 and volunteer waiter.  He was also active with his church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Torrington.  He played bingo at Regal Care Nursing Home where he was a resident for the past 2 years.

The family would like to thank the nurses, aids and caregivers at Regal Care of Torrington that were kind and supportive in providing his care daily.

He is survived by his daughter, Gail and her husband Carl Foster of Avon, CT, his grandson Jordan Foster of Quincy, MA , granddaughter Chelsea Foster of Watertown, MA , his close family friend Anne Vrlik and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday. Sept 7 at 11am at the Hillside Cemetery Chapel 76 Walnut Street Torrington, CT.  Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
