Antonio Viscariello, 78, of Torrington, CT, passed away Friday, September 15th, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Assunta Viscariello

Antonio was born in San Lorenzello, Benevento, Italy on July 12, 1939, son of Vincenzo and Filomena Guerrera Viscariello. Mr. Viscariello came to the United States from Italy on December 21st of 1961. He was a tailor, working for The Band Box and also worked for The Torrington Company.

Mr. Viscariello was known for his endless dedication to the Italian-American community. Since 1983, Mr. Viscariello ran a Sunday evening program called "TeleDomenica" on Cablevison Channel 5. Before he started that program, he was correspondent for "La Voce" and "Il Progresso Italo-Americano" as well as "America Oggi" all Italian newspapers in which he worked and wrote articles for. Mr. Viscariello was known for being behind the camera at any family or friend’s special occasions and he loved every minute of it.

In 2006, His lifetime dedication and service to the Italian Community earned him one of the highest honors bestowed by the Italian Government. Viscariello, then 67, was inducted into the Order of the Star of Italian Solidarity. The Italian Government in Rome bestows the international Award, starting in 1947, to people who contribute to the betterment of the Italian society.

A year later, Viscariello was the recipient of UNICO’s Man of The Year award for his dedication to the local Italian community. Antonio was very involved in many Italian Clubs in Connecticut,  The Sons of Italy, Italian Heritage,Pontelandolfo Club, and Cercemaggiore Community Club.

In addition to his wife, he leaves daughters Maria Stoecker and husband Rob, and Joanne Beyus and husband Ken, sons Vincenzo Viscariello and Alfredo Viscariello and wife Melissa, and grandchildren Vincenzo Viscariello Jr., Jason Anstett, Jeffrey, Christopher, and Kayla Beyus, Chelsea and Isabella and Alfredo Viscariello Jr., Great-Grandchildren Zachary Bealieu and Kirsten Rumor.  He also leaves a half brother,  Liberato Parente and several nieces and nephews.

His smile was contagious and he loved his family and friends more than anything in the world.

A Liturgy of the Resurection will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, September 18th at Saint Maron Church .613 Main St Torrington, with burial following at Hillside Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call 10:00:00 to 12:30 PM on Monday at Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington. Memorial Contributions can be made to Saint Jude's Childrens Hospital or Charlotte Hungerford Hospital
