Allyn Edgerton Sedgwick, born June 22, 1924, son of Ethel Sedgwick Bartholomew and Ralph Sedgwick, died peacefully in his home on June 1, 2018. He will be remembered by his many friends and loved ones for his sense of humor, his willingness to always lend a helping hand, and his caring nature. He was the friend everyone wishes they had.
Allyn graduated from Torrington High School in 1942 and served in World War II from 1942 to 1946. After the war, he returned to spend the rest of his life in New Hartford, the town where he grew up. He spent 39 years working as a sales manager for Eastern States and Agway. In retirement, Allyn owned and operated Tranquil Hollow Farm, waking up before dawn every day to tend to his apple orchard, gardens, and hay fields.
An avid golfer, he was the commissioner of golf at Eastwood Men’s League for many years, and was a member of The Brothers-in Law Golf League and Fairview Men’s League. Thirty years ago, Allyn married Agnes Domonell, a Torrington High School teacher. For 25 years, the couple spent their winters in Port Orange, Florida, where they played golf on most of the courses in the area. They also spent many weeks in the summer at their cottage on Martha’s Vineyard.
