Virginia (Eseppi) Nowakowski

Virginia Marie (Eseppi) Nowakowski, 93, of Torrington, died Sunday, May 21 surrounded by family. She was born on September 13, 1923 and lived a long and full life devoted to family and friends. Virginia grew up on Newfield Road and later raised her own family and enjoyed her twilight years in her home on the hill just steps away from her childhood home.

She was a graduate of Torrington High School and a retiree of Waterbury Hospital, where she worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She spent many hours of her spare time as a volunteer at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.

Virginia was the wife of the late Peter S. Nowakowski, with whom she enjoyed 55 years of marriage. She is survived by her youngest brother Paul Eseppi and wife Irene; daughter Virginia Nemetz and husband Brad; daughter Janet Gold and husband Stephen; son Michael Nowakowski and wife Marsha; daughter Diane Domonell and husband Daniel; and daughter Lauren Mucha. She was the beloved grandmother of Clea Huston, Justin Domonell, Amy Manley, Michael Nowakowski, and Kristen Domonell and great grandmother to Lucy and Jasper.

Her life will be celebrated with a calling hour on Wednesday, May 24 from 9:30 to 10:30 at Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Avenue, Torrington, followed by a Catholic service of remembrance. A graveside service will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery, 236 East Pearl Street, Torrington
