Viola Ruth (Macchi) Gelormino

Viola Ruth ( Macchi) Gelormino, 89, of Torrington, beloved wife of Joseph C. Gelormino, passed away Thursday, October 19th, after a long illness. "Vi" was born in Torrington December 19, 1927, daughter of the late Peter and Adeline (Dalone) Macchi. She was a graduate of Torrington High School and later earned an RN Degree from St. Franics School of Nursing. After raising her children, Vi returned to nursing as an infirmary nurse at CT Junior Republic in Litchfield and later as a patient care coordinator at the former Torrington Extend-A-Care until her retirement.

She was a compassionate and caring nurse, always concerned about the needs of her patients. Vi was a kind hearted woman who always placed her family above her own needs, and never uttered an unkind word about anyone. She had a wide circle of High School friends ( the "45" club) and enjoyed playing cards and other activities. Called the Class Giggler in High School as a Cheerleader, Vi never lost her sense of humor until she suffered a debilitating stroke. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren and hosting holiday dinners with homemade ravioli and her famous cheesecake. She was a wonderful mother and wife and will be greatly missed.

Besides her devoted husband of 67 years, she is survived by two sons, David and wife Aida Gelormino of Waterbury, Gary and wife Lynn Gelormino of New Hartford, and a daughter Joanne and husband Alden Seamans of Avon, three grandchildren, Scott and wife Stephanie Gelormino, Michael and wife Erin Gelormino, and Kristen and husband Steve Wabrek, four great granddaughters, three nieces, one nephew, one grand niece, and two brothers in law, Gordon Benedict and Robert DelVecchio. She was predeceased by an infant son, Joseph, a sister Doris Benedict, a nephew Robert Benedict, and sister in law Lenore DelVecchio.

Funeral Services will be held Monday Oct 23 at 9:30 from Phalen Funeral Home 285 Migeon Ave Torrington to Saint Peter Church for a Mass at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
