Rev Joseph E Versteeg

Reverend Joseph E. Versteeg,  (Retired) 97, passed to his heavenly reward on April, 22, 2017 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington CT.  Pastor Joe, as he was referred to by most, was born on December 13, 1919 in Patterson New Jersey.  He began his ministry in 1966 serving as Pastor for the First Methodist Church of Hillsdale New York which included the North Hillsdale, West Taghkanic and Glenco Mills congregations.  He also served the Canaan Connecticut and Millerton New York areas in 1978 and retired from New Haven Connecticut in June 1984 after 18 ½ years of service.

He remained active in Torrington helping with church ministry at Center Congregational Church and, most recently, at the First Congregational Church on Riverside Avenue, where he was a member.  Reverend Versteeg is predeceased by his loving wife of 75 years, Mildred Versteeg.  He is survived by son, Joseph and wife Paula Versteeg, grandson Jonathan of Seattle Wa and grandson Eric and wife Melanie Versteeg of Massachusetts.

A memorial service in celebration of Reverend Versteeg’s life is to be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. , First Congregational Church , 835 Riverside Avenue, Torrington CT.
