Lorraine Ann (Higgins) Easton

Lorraine Ann (Higgins) Easton, age 79, passed away peacefully at her Florida home on Marco Island on September 7, 2017 finally surrendering to her illness known as ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also often referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”.

On June 22, 1938, Lorraine was the third of seven children born to the late Bernard and Anna (Tatar) Higgins of Torrington, CT.  Growing up in the Northwest Hills of Torrington, CT, Lorraine attended and graduated from St. Francis Catholic School and Torrington High School, class of 1956.  After graduation, Lorraine was employed as a secretary at Fitzgerald Manufacturing Company of Torrington, CT.  While working and residing in Torrington, Lorraine met (Tony’s Drive-In) and married her groom of more than 50 years, William Russell Easton, at St. Francis Catholic Church on October 16, 1965. 

Lorraine and Billy resided in their hometown of Torrington, CT for the first four years of their marriage while starting their family with the birth of their son, Robert, before moving to Cheshire, CT.  After moving to Cheshire, Lorraine & Billy completed their family with the birth of their daughter, Honey (Elaine).  Lorraine’s role of wife and mother was her true calling as she perfected the art of loving stay-at-home Mom and homemaker.  Lorraine enjoyed and was counted on for all of her children’s’ activities.  She was also a member of the St. Thomas Becket Church’s Women’s Club participating in numerous fundraisers and holiday bazaars.    Lorraine thoroughly enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, reading, Broadway plays, dining-out, traveling extensively, and especially yelling BINGO!

After residing in Cheshire, CT for thirty years, Lorraine and Billy returned to Torrington, splitting their time between Connecticut summers and leaf peeping autumns before heading south to beach-filled Florida winters and early springs.  Lorraine enjoyed wintering on her little island spending time reading at the beach, sewing and doing crafts at home in addition to being a member and former officer of the Moose Lodge on Marco Island, FL until Billy’s fateful passing on December 29th, 2015. Thereafter, Lorraine continued her snowbird schedule until her health declined and permitted otherwise.

Lorraine is survived by her two children, son Robert Easton, of Meriden, CT and daughter Honey (Elaine) Easton, of Marco Island, FL, as well as three siblings, her brother Robert Higgins, of Torrington, CT and sisters Maureen Litke of Bristol, CT and Carolann Pucino of Cumin, Georgia as well as extended family to include cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Lorraine is predeceased by her husband, William Russell Easton, parents, Bernard and Anna Higgins of Torrington, CT, sister, Kathleen Higgins of Torrington, CT, brother Patrick Higgins of Winsted, CT and Betty Higgins Marino of Kitty Hawk, NC.

A Mass in Lorraine’s honor will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church, 160 Main Street, Torrington, CT at 10 a.m., October 7th, 2017, followed by a brief graveside service at St. Francis Cemetery located on 863 Main Street, Torrington, CT.
