Torrington--Julia Wilson Capel Blick, 94, passed away peacefully July 19, 2017 after a brief illness. Julie was born in Torrington January 26, 1923, the daughter Charles W. Capel and Jane Stillwell Wilson of Harwinton. She graduated with honors from Torrington High School in 1940 and then from the Executarial School of Business. She began her career as a legal secretary at Roraback & Roraback in Torrington and then for the law firm that eventually became Cramer and Anderson in Litchfield. It was there that she met her late ex-husband Attorney Clayton L. Blick.
In the early '80's while at Travelers Insurance in Hartford, where she worked for seven years, she was featured on CBS Television Network News as part of their "Elderlies Return to Work" series.
With a lifelong talent for sketching and oil painting, immediately after high school, Julie received the inaugural Clara Swayze Scholarship to study painting at Connecticut College, but could not attend. However many years later, she studied Fine Arts there. She also studied privately with noted artists William Schultz, Lisle Trimpe, and Paul Grausman. She was a past member of the Kent Art Association, the American Impressionist Society and received National Merit Award for her work.
She was a past Board member of the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital Auxiliary, board Member of Torrington Women's Club, and a member of the Torrington Historical Society, a member of the Descendants of the Founders of Hartford as she was a descendant of Joseph Wadsworth, known for placing the Connecticut Charter in the Charter Oak Tree and an early Governor of Connecticut.
She is survived by her son Clayton L. Blick Jr. and daughter in law Linda Blick of Litchfield and son Brando J. Blick of Torrington.
