Irma H. Gaioni, 94, a true woman of grace with a heart full of God’s love went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 8, 2016. She was born April 3, 1922 to Alva N. and Margaret (Shaw) Hitchcock. Irma was the Salutatorian of Torrington High School, Class of 1939. She worked as the executive secretary for Union Hardware and Brunswick Corp. Irma enjoyed duck pin bowling, golfing, knitting and quilt making. She was an avid reader and loved the challenge of crossword puzzles. Irma was a member of the Four Corner Circle at First Congregational Church where she participated in craft making and cherished the company of the other women of the church. Her, and her husband of 61 years, Albert Gaioni, loved to travel and were well known for their ballroom dancing. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, especially her dear friend Ann Vail. Her family thanks the entire staff of Brookdale Senior Living for their wonderful care of Irma over this past year.

Irma was predeceased by her husband Al Gaioni, her sister Doris Quinn, her son Richard Gaioni and two grandsons, Michael and Thomas McManus. She is survived by her daughter Faith Darr, husband Pastor Steven Darr, grandsons Terrance McManus and David McManus, his wife Patti and Irma’s great-grandson Jacob McManus. She is also survived by her daughter Leslie Kirkwood, husband William Kirkwood and grandchildren Melissa and Kristopher Kirkwood. She is also survived by her step grandchildren, Pamela Bouffard and her husband, Terry, Melinda Claypool and her husband, Ralph, and Kelley Wayne and her husband, Kevin, as well as six step great grandchildren. 

 

Calling hours will be held at Phalen Funeral Home on Monday, August 15th from 5-7 PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 16th at 11AM at the First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave. Torrington, CT. Contributions can be made in her name to the “Book of Remembrance”, First Congregational Church, 835 Riverside Ave., Torrington CT 06790.
