George L Yarocki

George L Yarocki,  88, of Torrington died May 25 2016 
 He was born 7/2/1927 in Torrington at the family home.  He  attended Torrington High School , graduating 1944
His father worked at the Torrington Casting Company, so grew up around metal industry.
He started an apprenticeship at J.H Rosenbeck & son Machine Shop, as a toolmaker.machinist.
Drafted into army late 1945, he served with the 67th Tank Battalion, 2nd Armored division, mostly in Texas.
 In 1949 he founded Torrington Metal in a shed at 400 Riverside Avenue, and over the next 20 years built it into a hugely successful business. The Company motto "We do anything "was appropriate, one of George's first big sellers was galvanized TV arial brackets, and the range of products varied from hand rails, bridges, backhoe attachments, snow plows, architectural steelwork, production line equipment for large factories such as the Hotchkiss Brothers on Water Street, and Pratt and Whitney, to small accurate machine shop work.
During this time, George also became a family man, His first wife Gladys, and son and daughter Kevin and Kim being a large part of his life. 
He married his second wife, and love of his life Mildred (Avampato) Yarocki in the early seventies, starting a new company ,G L Yarocki at 679 Riverside Avenue, and lived there until his passing. 
His lifelong passion for antique motorcycles, and particularly Indian motorcycles, lead him to becoming a worldwide acclaimed restorer , and his founding of the 101 Association , dedicated to the model of Indian Scout he first bought in 1941 , has helped other enthusiast on 5 continents for over 30 years.
A lifelong passion for learning led him to buy a small plane and learn to fly in his seventies, and he has inspired and taught generations of metalworkers and antique bike owners to improve their skills and spread their horizons.
George is survived by Milli, his son Kevin ,grandson Kevin Jr., great grandson Teofel Yarocki, Millis' children Tracy and Mark, grandchildren Chea and Austin, and great grand sons Keegan and Peyton, as well as a host of nephews and neices .
He was predeceased by his beloved daughter Kym Maygar and his beautiful sister Ruth Deming.  A Memorial Service will be held June 18th at 11 AM at First Congregational Church 835 Riverside Ave Torrington CT.www.phalenfuneral.com
