Eileen M (Kennedy) Fahey

Eileen Kennedy Fahey, 74, a long time resident of Torrington, passed away on November 13 in Torrington.  Born on August 12, 1942, and raised in Sunnyside, NY by the late Richard and Eileen Kennedy, Eileen spent all her adolescent summers and holidays in Torrington at her grandparents’ home on Taylor Street. 

Having graduated from St. John's University, Eileen became a dedicated English teacher.   She was an English teacher at Lawrence Junior High School for three years.  She relocated to the Torrington area in 1968 and taught at The Vogel School for several years before finally joining the staff at Torrington High School, where she retired in 2001.   Over her thirty years as a Torrington educator, Eileen touched many lives as both an English teacher and boys’ tennis coach, whom she led to a Naugatuck Valley League Championship in 1989. 

Eileen’s passion for tennis was well-known, as she  played several times a week for over forty years.  She was also an avid animal lover, passionate for all the African animals she saw on a safari, but particularly most fond of elephants. 

Eileen is survived by her sister, Mary and her husband Ed Kurinsky, nephew Michael Kurinsky and niece, Laura Hamilton and five great-nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind many close friends and tennis competitors.  The family wishes to thank the staff at Litchfield Woods for the excellent care and compassion given to Eileen.

The Phalen Funeral Home 285  Migeon Avenue Torrington is handling the arrangements and the family will greet friends between the hours of 3-5 PM on Thursday.  Burial will be in St. Francis Old Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
