David F Capolupo Jr.

David Frank Capolupo Jr., 61, of Torrington, passed away on Friday, November 10 following an extended illness. Dave leaves behind his beloved wife of 27 years, Janice (Farley); children Brent (partner Amy Richard) & Carl Thompson (wife Colleen Thompson), Drew & Angela Capolupo (fiancé Tyler Reginatto) and grandchildren Trent  & Cowen Thompson.  He was pre-deceased by his father David Sr., mother Lucy, and sister Judy.

He was born in Waterbury and raised in Watertown, CT, and made Torrington, CT his home. Dave raised his family here, and was well-known as an educator in the Torrington School System for 35 years. He taught all levels of mathematics and had a special affinity and heart for working with students who found the subject challenging. His warmth, humor, and ability to simplify the complex guided hundreds of students to success over the years both in the classroom and beyond. He continued to offer counsel and support as he tutored students with special needs throughout retirement. Teaching was a true vocation and gift for Dave.  

Dave was an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church community and choir and previously served in the choir at Center Congregational Church – both in Torrington. He was a current member of the Silver Belles and Beaux and loved to sing and entertain others. Dave shared his time, treasure, and talents in the community by supporting church activities, appearing on stage in Warner Theatre stage productions, and lending a helping hand wherever needed.

Dave’s loss will be deeply felt by his family and friends. He was an avid collector – of memories and moments with family and friends. Whether he was working in his beautiful gardens, painting, tag saling, going to the casino, hosting a party, playing card games with friends, rescuing dogs, celebrating Davey-mass, decorating for the next holiday, or traveling the world,  he was engaged in having good times - offering witty conversation, sharing big laughs, telling great stories, and reminding us all to enjoy each and every day. He was an unforgettable man who loved and celebrated life – a loving husband, father, uncle, and friend. Dave leaves behind that legacy of love, and countless people who are better for having known him. He will be forever missed and remembered.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 13 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Phalen Funeral Home, 285 Migeon Avenue, Torrington, CT.  Funeral Services  will take place on Tuesday, November 14 at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 837 Charles Street, Torrington, CT.
