Cornelius J. Hayes Jr. of Barefoot Bay, Florida

               Cornelius J. Hayes Jr. “Connie” 84, of Barefoot Bay FL. formerly of Winchester, CT. passed away in his sleep on Dec. 21, 2017 at his home in Barefoot Bay, Florida.   He was the beloved husband of Simone (Lemelin) Hayes.  Connie was born in Torrington, CT on April 17, 1933 to the late Cornelius Sr. and Mary (Shanahan) Hayes

               After attending local schools, Connie decided he wanted to become a Trappist Monk.  He entered the Roman Catholic monastery life at St. Joseph’s Abbey, Spencer, Ma. where he lived for 5 years until being involved in a very serious farm accident.  After leaving the cloistered life he returned to Torrington where he was employed at the Torrington Company (Standard Plant) as an engraver for over 30 years.

               Connie met Simone while working at the Torrington Co. and they enjoyed life traveling all over this and other countries.  After selling their home in Winchester they decided to live full time in Florida.

               He was an avid UConn Huskies fan and especially enjoyed watching the “Lady Huskies”.

               In addition to his wife of over 36 years, he is survived by his twin brothers: Terry (Barbara) Hayes and Thomas (Lynn) Hayes of Torrington and several nieces and nephews.

               In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother John Hayes.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday Jan 13, at 11:00 AM at The Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 74 Litchfield Road, Harwinton.   Friends and relatives may call at the church prior to the mass from 10 – 11 AM.
