Albert J Troughton

Lifelong resident of Torrington and Retiree of AT&T, Albert (“Bub”) J. Troughton passed away Tuesday morning at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.  Al was born in Torrington on February 7, 1928, the son of the late Albert G. and Helen A. (Travis) Troughton.  He entered the United States Marine Corps on February 5, 1946 and served as a F4U Corsair aircraft mechanic; his service time was highlighted by a tour on Midway Island until his Honorable Discharge on December 3, 1947.  After returning home, he began his career at SNETCO/AT&T working as a lineman, and ending his 39 years of service as an installer/repairman.  It was during this time at the phone company that he met many of his life-long friends.  Immediately after retirement Al went to work at the Sullivan Senior Center where he reacquainted with many Torrington residents that he went to school with, and made many more new friends.  It was during his time at the senior center that his “attention to detail” came to light.  He was often heard to say “It’s good enough when I say it’s good enough."  As his brother noted, “Albert’s life epitomized an old Connecticut axiom…'land of steady habits'.”  What brought the greatest joy to Al was spending time at home with his wife and family, “puttering” around the yard while listening to country music with an unlit cigar stub in his mouth, his numerous feral cats that used his shed/house as halfway houses, the most recent resident being “Fred”, and his Monday Morning breakfast meetings with other SNETCO retirees.  Al will be remembered for his love of family, his strong faith, his tremendous work ethic, his sense of humor, and his generous spirit.  Besides his loving wife Olive, to whom he was proud to say that he was married to for 66 years “and two years courting”, he leaves daughters Janice Rousseau and her husband Arthur of Harwinton, Ellen Leone and her husband Raymond Jr. of Stafford VA, Roberta Troughton and her partner Joan Dempsey of New Gloucester ME, a son, Christopher Troughton and his wife Fettouma of Stafford VA, granddaughter Sabrina Kaci Troughton and grandsons Nathaniel James and Ryan Daniel Troughton of Stafford VA, and a beloved Brother George H. Troughton of Anthem AZ.  Al also had several cousins and nieces and nephews that will remember him fondly. 

Family members and close friends are invited to participate in a mass of Christian burial which will be celebrated on Saturday, January 28 at 10 am at Trinity Episcopal Church, Prospect St Torrington.  Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery with full military honors.  There will be a “Celebration of Life” held in the spring—date to be announced at a later time.  If you wish to make a memorial donation, in lieu of flowers the family is collecting donations to be distributed between Wounded Warriors of CT,  The National Museum of The Marine Corps , and Trinity Episcopal Church.  Donations may be sent c/o Janice Rousseau   Brookfield Rd, Harwinton, CT  06791.The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the nurses and techs of the 5th floor of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, as well as the doctors and Hospice Staff.  Your gentle and compassionate treatment of our Dad and your thoughtfulness towards us was deeply appreciated. www.phalenfuneral.com
